Before its
makeover, this space put the “spare”
in spare room. Mismatched furniture,
plain-Jane walls , and no place for
storage gave the space little purpose.
Although the room is confining at
12'x i3, designer John Loecke,
below,
was able to transform it into a den
and home office that can double as a
guest room. How did he do it? By
sweating the small stuff. “In tight
spaces, the details become more
important,” he says. “The more
visually interesting the room, the
less likely you are to focus on its size.”
